Why would Chen talk to an interim coach who was put in place by a guy he's getting ready to fire? I sure hope Joel hasn't let his real estate license expire. He seems like a nice enough guy who is simply in over his head.

I could have told you they were not going to do anything special for the franchise when moving into the new building. If you look at what Chen did with his Tulsa team moving into the new barn, you would think he would have learned. Especially when he is using one of his employees to help run the team in Wichita. Granted we were no where near as pathetic as this, but then again look at the city we are talking about.

I'm not sure what everyone wants Chen to do. Do they want him to look for a coach? He's the owner. He's not a talent/coach scout. I would imagine he and Joel have talked it over and a dollar figure has been proposed for the coaching position and it's up to whoever is in charge of finding/hiring the coach to make an agreement. I'm using the following as an example, but when the Blazers existed, if Sauter were to have quit, does anyone think that Funk would have looked for a coach? No f'in way. He'd have trusted his front office to make a move. He'd have probably consulted them on a salary range but I doubt much more.

Chen owns the team and has nothing to do with running it. It is an investment to him. Bitch about him not being involved all you want but he's never been involved. If the Thunder were 24-9 would Chen get credit for the state of the team? No way. Everyone is looking to place blame somewhere. The sad fact is that (and I'm not being a dick to Joel) Joel brought back a coach that didn't need to be brought back and by the time he was released, every coach that was worth his salt already had a job.

I'd bet that the money he was paying for a coach at the beginning of the season could have brought in a decent coach as a replacement BEFORE the season started. I'd imagine that right now the only coaches looking for jobs are ones who've been fired for having crappy seasons...Not an option really to bring that kind of a guy in right now.

If I'm Chen, I see that this season is done and I save the money on a good coach for the rest of the season and bring in a guy durring the off season. Why pay the guy for this season when there is zero chance of "turning it around". The fans are still showing up so he's basicaly saving money at this point.

Doug Sheddan replaced Gary Fay back in 92-93 late in the season and turned the Thunder into the hottest team in the league but it was too late to dig out of the hole. The Thunder had back to back championships under Sheddan the next two seasons. Good coaches can be found, even at this stage in the season. Joel just needs to get off his ass...maybe this job is too much for him.
Joel needs to go in a bad way.

I didn't know anyone really read Lutz and you are the only one bitching about Chen.

Why would Chen care if the team wins or loses? Chen is not going to be involved as long as the franchise is in the black.

That was also during the Non-Vet rule era and made it easier to pull off. I am not saying it is is impossible but the sucess rate is alot lower.

Shedden was probably 1 of 100 that works out that well.

Hell Colorado had a championshipp team that hired a new coach and they got owned in the finals.

Now is there someone that would be willing to coach for a reduced price that could have made a positive impact on the team? I think that coach is out there and Joel chose not to do that. Will he be better off waiting until the off season to hire a higher quality coach, I guess we will see.

I'm extemely surprised that there is anyone out there (other than Thunder opponents) who still wants Joel involved in the selection of the next Wichita coach.

Keep in mind the three decent Thunder Head Coach hires were not done by anyone on the Thunder payroll.

Shedden - Hired by Monte Miron (He was in charge of all personnel decisions when the league was centrally owned).
Bryan Wells - See Shedden.
Derek Laxdal - Hired by Express Sports (Not Presson even though he liked to claim this hire) after Shuck was fired.

I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying.

I get so sick of this hiring and firing bullshit - reminds me of one time my cousin and I were watching a Billy Martin 'tastes great less filling commercial and we started chanting TASTES GREAT, LESS FILLING and my dad and one of his drinking buddies came downstairs and told us to shut the fuck up and my cousin and I ended up getting into a fight with my dad and my dad's drinking buddy.

Just one of those stupid things people do when their drunk I guess!!!
