Bugs to be squashed

Mudbugs owner John Madden wants out. If he can't find a new owner the team will be folded.

I have been getting emails about this all day. This really sucks. I cannot see anyone buying this team. Attendance is horrible. Too bad. They are a good team.

The average runs from 6500 at the top down to about 2000 at the low end. League wide average is just under 4000.

News has been getting progressively better since the initial shocker. Don't know what happened that soured Madden just a few weeks after he made renewed commitment to the team. May have been issues with the league, arena or union.

But as of now there are several local and out of town groups trying to work out a deal for the team. Musky is quoted in today's Times saying the Bugs have 90% chance of playing this season.

That is great news. It just wouldn't be the same league without the Mudbugs.

Hasn't Madden always been at odds with the league?

Pretty much since the game seven fiasco in Laredo there have been issues with the league. That being said I tend to think (absolutely no inside info on the matter) that is has something to do with dealing with the players union.

With 2 consecutive play off sweeps, losing to Laredo twice during the finals and current economic issues from the past 2 seasons, it's just too much for one owner to take on his own. Hopefully a new owner can save the team but with the current economic situation it may not work.
