Don't you know by now man, they never do... they only claim to have the knowledge... but are sworn to the secret society of "I know more than you" never to share it.

I've actually got a thread I created called "Time for another I know something about the Bugs you don't thread", where I don't share things that I know, that the average (I consider you, rovot, below average, but that really isn't relevant) fan doesn't, maybe I should start one here.

To quote Crusty, with whom I confided Blaznek's status last week, before it was public; "Yup speedy...you were right."

By the way, nice to see the increase in activity over the past few weeks, must be getting close to hockey season.

I think I'll take a different angle with the inside info thread here, if I do create one, I'll call it; "Things I know but would have to kill you if I shared them".

I don't honestly care how average or below average you deem me, risser. I never have. I am a fan, I don't *need* to know the ins and outs of the organization. I don't mind finding out when the general public does. I don't need to suck the proverbial dick of Joel T. or any of the players like you do.

So keep having fun knowing what I don't... it means exactly zero to me.

Up until now there has not been a "protected list" in the CHL - they can make qualifying offers to every single player. It's not really a "contract" as we'd normally understand it, just a protection of the rights within the CHL.

Players with a two-year contract can't even leave for Europe or another league. Year to year players can in the off-season. And, in truth, could also do so at any time, just like they can be cut at any time, except the three US minor leagues have agreements not to poach each other's players once each season begins.

Blaming the GM might be off the mark as well. In the CHL the coach/director of hockey operations makes all these types of decisions. The coach is the "GM" as we'd understand the title in the NHL. It is possible of course, that a first-time head coach with no experience in this league failed to understand the system. Not to mention from his perspective he might have liked to get something in return. And while I still think letting Clayton go wherever he might want is a nice gesture if that's what happened, it won't seem quite so charming when he's suiting up for another Northern Conference team.

Speed is correct, 85% or league minimum is the "qualifying offer". Seems the Thunder would have at least offered him to be able to trade his rights to a Southern conference team to prevent him from signing with us, OKC, Tulsa or CO.

It seems there are only a few times that a protected list comes into play, such as expansion drafts and fulfilling the infamous 'future considerations' trades.

Make one wonder if the "deal" agreed to verbally was under that 85% to free up money for other players.

It sounds like they thought they had a verbal agreement and didn't file it officially in time, and now they end up with nothing but a bag of pucks ... without the pucks.

With the new PHPA agreement, they can only submit 8 qualifying offers. They didn't submit one for Clayton, either by mistake or on purpose.

I'm not sure if the team is going to cry one way or another. He was tied for 85th in the league in goals, 49th in assists & 65th in points. I'm sure he's still got some in the tank, but he's not a 1st line center an longer in this league and probably doesn't command 85% of last years salary with the stats he put up. It'll suck to see him in another jersery, but those numbers aren't worth crying over and shouldn;t be hard to replace, at least for most teams.

Are these said offers filed with the league for proof they were offered, otherwords it would be a he did no they didn't yes we did no they didn't......

Then again what should it matter, I am guessing it wasn't by mistake. It was he was saying ghe is going to sign and Joel trusted him after 12 years of playing in Wichita with no warnings otherwise.

And what agreement is that exactly? Not saying there isn't one, or that such a provision isn't something that the union wants to have. They have it in the ECHL, though it took them 15 years to get it. But if it's true you ought to see a whole bunch of players switching CHL teams in the next two months. And if the deadline was really August 1 you would have thought there'd be some already.

Yeah but he was tied for 1st on the team for goals and 2nd on the team in assists and 2nd on the team in total points. Those numbers WILL be hard to replace especially for the Thunder. Players aren't exactly knocking down doors trying to come there and play, you do realize that right?

1st in goals 2nd in assists and 2nd overall pts on a PISS POOR team is not really saying much. How he compared to the rest of the league is a little bit better standard by which to guage his performance...only drawback is that since he was lacking a half way decent supporting cast, his numbers will be a little less than normal.
