Expansion Team

Wausau, WI has been granted an expansion team for the 2009-10 season. They are currently building a 4000 seat arena.

No they have NOT been granted a USHL expansion team. Wausau is TALKING about building a complex that would include a 4,000 seat arena that would be home to a USHL franchise they would like to have.

There hasn't been a formal agreement reached to construct the facility yet. So, even if a group from Wausau had made application to the USHL, the league would not grant approval to that group, until they have a place to play officially on the way.

At this point in time, saying Wausau, Wisconsin has been granted a USHL franchise, is just putting the cart before a horse that hasn't even been born yet.

There is no ownership group that currently has a signed lease with the proposed building in Wausau.

Once a lease is actually signed, then you may hear something. After the disaster several years ago in Rapid City, where the AWHL awarded a franchise to an owner who was going to play in a building that never got built, to the near disaster in Bozeman, where that building nearly died shortly after construction began, leagues tend NOT to award franchises to markets without a building actually on the way, or without an ownership group that has a signed lease with a buildin g that's actually on the way.

NOTHING in Wausau is official yet.

And now Bozeman, which was a great facility for hockey now houses beer.. but it is still a great facility for Bud Light, Coors Light, Bud Select, Miller Lite, and many other fine drinks...

Hell, Bozeman housed great drinks when the team was playing there....it's just that the drinks were in peoples's hands!

My boss's wife is from there and she heard it from her friends and family.

The USHL to Wausau story is not a sceret. But, it's not a done deal yet. The arena has to be approved first and last I read, it wasn't. If it is approved and is built, then it is very likely that the USHL will have a team there. But, to say at this point that it's a "done deal," is a bit premature.
