Graham Dearle retires.....

NOTE: Blazers forward Graham Dearle has opted to retire from professional hockey and return to Canada to pursue a new career.

“I had a great conversation with Graham about his decision,” said Sauter. “He is getting married this weekend and looking forward to starting a new chapter in his life. I wish him all the luck in the world. I know he will be successful in his new profession.”

Hard nosed player.... but a guy can only take so many of these....

You could not have said it better TeamRoper. He had that glass jaw syndrome. Go over on the OKC board and look at the wonderful pictures in the Thank You Graham Dearle thread. Talk about a man crush on someone.

I honestly always liked Graham, he wasn't afraid to throw with the big guys or stick up for a teamate.

Too bad he ran into the player voted best fighter in 2006.

The results of the 2005-2006 Central Hockey League ‘Best of the Best’ Poll are in. Each of the CHL’s 15 member teams players and management staff were polled and asked to identify their top three selections for each of 40 separate categories. Below is an article provided by Kollen Long of the Wichita Eagle. Complete poll results are listed below, and are also viewable on the CHL web site at www.centralhockeyleague.com.

Colorado’s Fraser Filipic is listed at 5 feet 10 and 185 pounds, but he admits that’s a bit of a stretch. He’s actually only 5-9. Despite being relatively small in stature, the third-year pro has developed into one of the most-feared players in minor-league hockey. Filipic has been voted the Central Hockey League’s best fighter in the league’s annual Best of the Best poll. The popular poll, voted on by players, coaches and broadcasters, always provides plenty of fodder for lively debate among league fans and observers. It’s the fifth year that the CHL has released the Best of the Best poll. Filipic beat out Ryan Shmyr of Rio Grande Valley and Jason Beatty of Lubbock for the honor. Shmyr is 6-6, 230, while Beatty checks in at 6-1, 210. Filipic said it’s a challenge to fight bigger players.

On July 20, 1969, the human race accomplished its single greatest technological achievement of all time when a human first set foot on another celestial body.

Six hours after landing at 4:17 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (with less than 30 seconds of fuel remaining), Neil A. Armstrong took the “Small Step” into our greater future when he stepped off the Lunar Module, named “Eagle,” onto the surface of the Moon, from which he could look up and see Earth in the heavens as no one had done before him.

Yes he did.

Speed, not sure what your problem is but jc brought up facts from the past so I joined him. Didn't realize we had to get clearance from the History Police to post on here.

He has lost a round or two. Just like Graham, he doesn't shy away from players who are bigger than he is and you are bound to lose one now and then. When you have been voted the best fighter, guys always come looking to prove otherwise. I meant no disrepect to Graham, was just sharing a memorable moment from his hockey career that didn't happen to end well for him. I wish him well in his retirement and life after hockey.
