Its supposed to be equal to the CHL but they have more AHL/NHL affiliations, thus it is scouted more, so a lot of the players prefer to play there. If I understand correctly the salary cap is a little higher. They are both considered "AA" but the ECHL is considered the 'premium' AA league.

I lived in Wichita (CHL) for seven years. I haev recently moved to Charlotte NC (ECHl). The players in the ECHL are genrally younger players that have a chance of playing in the NHL. Charlotte has about 10 out of 18 players that were selected in the NHL draft. If you look at players that have played in both leagues they have considerably higher stats in the CHL. Hope this helps. If you are ever in charlotte let me know i will tell you the best seats in the new arena.

I'd say it's pretty equal, I've watched both and it seems pretty even.

Not so much with the equal thing. ECHL considerably better than the CHL, sorry.

I've also read somewhere that there is a tighter limit on vets, so you won't see alot of the "older" players in that league, compared to the CHL, unless they are on their way "down". The ECHL seems to be more of a "developemental" league than the CHL could ever wish to be.
