Here is the press release......
The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL ) have announced they have sent defenseman Joe Markusen to the Tulsa Oilers to complete a trade made earlier this year that brought forward Martin Gascon from Tulsa to the RiverKings for a player to be named later.
Gascon appeared in 19 games with Mississippi after his arrival and played in all 12 playoff games. With the RiverKings, Gascon scored six goals and added 16 assists for 22 points. Two goals were power play goals and one was a game-winner.
With Tulsa, Martin scored once in six contests and added one assist. He came to the Oilers from Arizona, where he tallied seven goals and assisted on 37 others for 44 points. One of his seven red-lighters was a power play goal, he added a shorthanded goal and had two game winning scores.
When including his statistics with Tulsa and Arizona, Gascon was the RiverKings' leading scorer for the season. The native of Ville St. Pierre, Quebec finished with 68 points in his third professional season, having played with Fort Wayne of the UHL and then played last year in France.
A fifth-year pro, Markusen played in all 64 regular season games for the CHL Northeast Division champion RiverKings this year. He scored ten goals and added 16 assists for 26 points from the blue line, while collecting 62 penalty minutes.
Six of Markusen's ten goals came on the power play and two of his red-lighters became game-winning goals for the RiverKings. The six-foot, 185 pound Markusen also finished the regular season tied for third on the roster in the plus-minus stat at plus-19.
In the playoffs, Markusen scored his first goal in the RiverKings' 3-2 overtime loss in the Northern Conference finals game one at Colorado. That tally started a three-game pointstreak for Markusen, where he netted two goals and added an assist, finishing the post season with two goals and six points.
RiverKings’ Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski says Markusen did a great job for the organization this year and wishes him the best as he continues his hockey career. “He played in all situations for us and was a leader on and off the ice. We are very proud of what he accomplished for the RiverKings,” said Kaminski.
Season tickets are on sale now for the upcoming season of RiverKings hockey excitement in the Mid-South. Check It Out by calling the RiverKings today at 662-342-1755!
