Considering they represent our NATIONAL TEAM in international competition, what's your excuse for NOT supporting them? |
well, it could be that they played like s*** most of time. Wildcats could beat them 10 times over!
anybody could claim they are NATIONAL TEAM but it dont necessarily means they get all the support if they dont play like one on consistent basis.
and if they are NATIONAL TEAM, why do they rank near the bottom in attendance??? That shouldnt be too hard to figure out, huh? |
Your idiocy never ceases to amaze me. You, sir... have to be one of the biggest dipshits on this board.
Do you know why these teams have relatively poor records? It's because they have no vets on them. Depending on which roster you face (there are actually two teams), you were facing 90s or 91s. The entire Wildcats roster last season featured only 45 games played by 90s, 32 by Curtis Heinz and 13 by Tyler Tosunian. Everyone else was older.
The purpose of the NTDP is to put the top younger players in the country up against older, more experienced players. Have you ever seen an NAHL player selected in the first round who was NOT in the NTDP? The NTDP has had eight players directly taken in the first round since 2003:
(Selection #, Player, Team)
2003
7 Ryan Suter, Nashville
2005
3 Jack Johnson, Carolina
7 Jack Skille, Chicago
2006
1 Erik Johnson, St. Louis
29 Chris Summers, Phoenix
2007
2 James Van Riemsdyk, Philadelphia
14 Kevin Shattenkirk, Colorado
18 Ian Cole, St. Louis
This doesn't count NTDPers who later went on to Major Junior or NCAA teams and were drafted from those squads.
As for their attendance... the NTDP has a budget at least three times greater than any other NAHL team, and probably closer to four times (your USA Hockey player registration fees at work). They don't market the team. That's not their purpose. Their purpose is to prepare America's top 16-17 year old players for the NHL draft and NCAA. I'm surprised they even take attendance, and would be more surprised if the numbers were being accurately reported.

To gauge how good a team is by the attendance #'s would be a mistake-- a big one. |
why??? if a hockey team...especially a NATIONAL one...is doing very well, shouldnt game attendance increase??? Sure.
otherwise, if they play like crap on a consistent basis, then no one will show up to watch.
makes perfect sense to me. whats so hard about that? |
Um, the rink the USNTDP plays in seats maybe 800 tops (and that's with standing room). In the early years of the program they had greater numbers, but they also played Major Junior teams back then too. On any given home stand maybe 10% of the attendence is scouts - NCAA, NHL, and Major Junior (if reported attendence is 200, well, you can do the math...). Since they do not need gate receipts to fund the team, that particular attendance figure is more important than total numbers (and much more impressive than any other NAHL team, IMHO. And it damn well better be given the mission of the program). The other factor is the 'competing events' factor. The NTDP is in Ann Arbor, MI. There are too many competing professional, college, and non-professional sporting events (and other events) to mention that compete with the NTDP. The program is doing it's job as well. While we can (and do) argue about the value of the $2MM investment annually in the program, US National Teams have consistently performed better in international play than they did before the program started a decade or so ago. Check the rosters - many or most of the players (depending on the age of the team) are current or former US NTDP players.
