JC, you're quite the Enlightened Hypocrite going around accusing Stoney of Stereotyping all the while referring to Minimum Wage Workers as "Scuts."

I think you're just some sort of Low-Life Scutophobic.

If all of a sudden McDonalds and Walmart were made to double their wages, what do you think they would do?

"they"?? i think "they" would have to raise their prices to reflect the actual cost of the goods and services and the america could begin working our way out of the subidizing of big business thru the use of public assistance to maintain a low-wage, at-will workforce. what do you think "they" would do.

you would be better served to stick with your "darkie" jokes and attempts at ebonics. when you can put your racism and bigotry behind you, get back to me with any meaningful thoughts you might have. until then, they are useless in any real discussion.

So the guy at Walmart is making 8 bucks an hour now and can't get by. So we give him a raise to 10 bucks and then raise the price of everything at Walmart and he is now better off?

It doesn't take a "rocket surgeon" to know that higher prices hurt the lower income people more than the upper.

no, fred, we should keep his wages as low as possible, subsidize his employer's labor costs thru public assistance, sell you goods and services at the subsidized price and let you feel good because you can get stuff that is cheap and you have something to bitch about for the rest of your life (all of "those people" who are mooching off of your tax dollars). when, all along, the truth is that your tax dollars are the very reason you can buy all that cheap stuff. really - wise the fuck up, would you.

that is true. but the increase to a liveable wage will more than overcome the effect of the increase in prices. however, you will be hurt by this, at least until the country can ween its way off of the corporate subsidies and reduce taxes accordingly.*

*this cannot be done by the type of gov't we currently have. it will take people who actually know what is going on to make any of that happen**.

**actually, now that i say it that way, maybe we better just forget it. i don't have enough trust in any of those fuckers to think they could make this work. you are right, fred, let's just leave it the way it is and bitch about it.

that's right, fred. and if we take away the public assistance part of this, you won't even be able to blame all those lazy people for everything. like i said in the other post, let's just forget it. at least you now have people you can stereoptype and blame for all your problems. why mess with a good thing.

What exactly is a "Livable Wage"?

I remember when they declared the War on Poverty. Going to wipe it out in so many years. Now, to my knowledge, there is no such thing as Government Housing without Central Heat & Air, and Wall to Wall Carpeting. Even people on Welfare have Color TVs, DVD players, Microwaves,

I know you will disagree with this, but, when I look around at how "Poor People" live now compared with back then, it looks to me like they have won the War on Poverty.

Now, I do understand that many people do not live as well as you do out in SnowFlake Springs, but that still leaves the Question of what ids a Livable Wage.

Two New Cars in the Garage, one in the Driveway, and everyone has their own in ground pool?

i drove thru my old hometown in la. last week. made it a point to go by and see if there were still all the one room, no plumbing, no running water shanties in "the quarters" like there was in the 60's. there were not. in fact, it didn't even look like "the quarters" existed any more. you can bitch all you want to and pine away for the good old days before public assistance, but i wouldn't have my worst enemy go back and live like that.

I think what I Bitch about is "Welfare." Thats not necessarily the same thing as Public Assistance.

I remember some of those Tin Roof Shack type things from my old hometown in Mississippi, as well (Long Beach). Probably not as much fun to live in as the Mansions in Snowflake Springs. However, is it not possible that a Tin Roof Shack is all the House some people deserve? How about that BanditBacker Guy. He hasn't had a job since 1988, and everyday, CHOOSES not to look for one. Why the Hell would a Guy like that deserve any Roof at all?

And, as usual, you still didn't answere. What do you consider a Livable Wage?
