BISMARCK, ND –August 11, 2008- Nick Hulberg, the voice of Bobcat Hockey since 2004 has been offered and accepted an announcing position with the Elmira Jackals, a professional hockey team in Elmira, New York.
Bobcat Hockey, a junior team in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), is proud to have created a platform for Hulberg to take a step in the direction of professional hockey with the move to the ECHL. An affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL), the Jackals are AA professional. Hulberg’s fans will still be able to follow his play-by-play on the B2 network and occasional games on the NHL Network during the Jackal’s upcoming season.
Hulberg has been a pillar in Bobcat’s organization for the past four years. The Minot native is best known for being the “Voice of the Bobcats.” With only four years in the broadcasting field, Hulberg boasts an impressive resume. A goalie throughout high school, he started his career after graduation as the public address announcer with the Bobcats. His experience and involvement then grew into radio broadcasting, B2 Network video feeds, as well as announcing the NAHL National tournament and the NAHL All-Star Showcase in 2008. Additionally, Hulberg has been involved with Bobcat Hockey’s administrative side as both the Director of Game Operations and as a Sales Executive. The 23 year old is taking the next step in what is sure to be a promising career ahead of him.
“It’s a bittersweet time for me, I am following my dream of making it to the NHL but Bismarck has so much potential to have an unforgettable season. I would just like to thank my brother Mat and the Bobcats ownership for everything they have done for me.” Hulberg stated.
“I am very proud of Nick and while we would have loved to have him stay with Bobcat Hockey, he has been given a special gift and we are happy that he can continue the pursuit of his dream and have no doubts he will accomplish them” Says Thom Brigl, Owner-CEO, of the Bobcats.
Bobcat Hockey is proud to have launched Nick Hulberg’s broadcasting career. We would like to wish him luck in New York. Nick, you will be missed.
