Who knows?

Okay I have a question and maybe somebody here knows

Player was rostered in the USHL last year, did not get much playing time
requested a trade to a BCHL team. ( I'm pretty sure the BCHL team needed to pay something for him) finished the year with the BCHL team, decided he did not want to report back, Went to a USHL camp this year and made the 25 man roster. Now I see he was traded from his BCHL team to a team in the LHJAAAQ

Okay who owns his rights? Or does nobody

Both teams own his rights for their respective league. The kid pretty much can decide what team is a better fit for him and choose that team. Not an uncommon occurance at all.

really? I was under the impression there was some rule or something in regards to player movement between the USHL and BCHL, Thats why the BCHL paid money for his rights last year, I would have thought it would have been the same going the other way, Sounds to me the BCHL team ends up on the short end of the deal

the way I see your question as that the BCHL team is no longer in the equation. It looks to me that he's rostered in both the USHL & the LHJAAAQ. In which I believe both teams own his rights.

I'm sure it is not nearly the same as when it happens in the USHL and NAHL since the LHJAAAQ is in Canada, but there is (I think) a date in which a player can only be protected by one team. But again, since it's USA and Canada, it may be completely different.

It looks like said BCHL team received a player in the trade, so they aren't completely 'out' anything. Like Sam said, the player has a decision to make.
