I could possibly see a switch to the WSHL if costs are getting out of hand. However, if he is concerned about costs, switching to the CHL would not make much sense. Any benefit he may get in the way of travel costs would be offset by work comp, player salaries, benefits, etc. Running a CHL team is much more expensive than running a team in the NAHL.

Lloyd, I will take a stab at your question and JT can correct me if I am wrong. I think the only "affilliation" to the Stars the TT have is that Madano is a minority owner. That being said, the Schlagels have a relationship with the Stars people that allow for the pros vs TT game and all the other stuff. Again, this is my understanding and it may be way off. I defer to JT on this one.

As far as the Cats staying in the Falls. Anyone else besides me think the city is going to jack Brodsky around on a new contract for the KYC next time? We lost St. Gobain and the city needs to replace the tax revenue they lost and this is a logical place to try to get it. Although the concerts and other promotions coming into the KYC are getting better, they still need that primary tennent. I just hope it stays hockey.

The city of WF is NOT gonna get the money from loss of St. Gobain thru new contract with Brodsky or any of concerts. Concerts here in WF is WAY below expectation.

$4.5 million a month is not replacable, unless another manufacturer comes in to replace St. Gobain, which dont look like gonna happen any time soon.

Attendance at the Cats game will come down some because some ex-St. Gobain employees that attended the Cats game on regular basis....has moved.

I agree with ya there, Kev. Really, if Brodsky wanted to cut down the costs, his only TWO options are....switching over to WSHL or move the team closer up north if he wants to stay in NAHL or go to USHL.

But CHL would probably bring a better brand of hockey.

Just because they are "Pro" doesn't mean it's better hockey. Remember we've had both here.

Maybe the impending increase in water rates will solve all the problems...

As far as the city trying to increase the cost of the next contract for the KYC, I would hope that the powers that be keep in mind that having a primary tenant already in place is better than no tenant at all.

Going USHL won't reduce his costs, regardless of what market the team is in. USHL budgets are typically about a third higher than in the NAHL.

Going to the WSHL is out of the question. Brodsky's brain would just explode dealing with the inmates that run that asylum.

I have not experienced CHL yet. You and JT may know more about that. I was just saying "probably" because CHL is "probably" much bigger than NAHL. Just saying, thats all.

WCR-- I know the city wouldnt try to recover the entire loss from the hockey contract, but it is another place to increase revenue.

BR-- your absolutely right. No tennent would probably shut the KYC down. All I am saying is all I have heard about Brodsky is he is a no nonsence business man, and if the city tries to get too pushy he has the ability to say so long. The contract needs to be fair for both parties and we have already shown Brodsky Wichita Falls supports junior hockey. 3rd in attendance in the league. As an example, there were more people at the tryout camp than average attendence at some teams regular games. All I know is I have fallen in love with hockey, mainly juniors, and want it to be around for a long time.

It is logical to think that the CHL would be better since it is professional (which kind of leaves me wondering how you came up with the idea). I would say that it is simply a different brand of hockey. There is more rough play, more fights, etc. The players also show a little more personality and character on the ice (not that the NAHL guys don't have the character, but some of the stuff you see in the CHL would probably result in a 10 minute misconduct in the NAHL). On the other hand, I have found the CHL to slower and less consistent when it comes to players' effort.

I prefer the NAHL hockey to the CHL hockey - but not everyone agrees. It is kind of a personal preference really.

4 pages w/out threats of bodily injury or name calling? Is this "Bizarro World GR"?

I prefer the NAHL simply due to the fact I believe the players put more effort and more of their heart into it. It seems a lot of the CHL players simply do not want to realize they weren't good enough to make it and care too much about where they are going for beers after the game. I know the fans from Wichita make the trip to Topeka and some have come to Frisco. They have all left thinking it is a better brand of hockey. Then again...their team sucks.

But only they are allowed to say their team sucks. They will defend their team to all outsiders. Wait and see.

Looks like there might be another one who will not be here, Michael Hill... Shane McColgan ( Who was drafted on the Force) will play 2008-09 with the L.A. Junior Kings, the same Under-18 team he played with this past winter. Which means more than likley Michael is going to stick with them

Hill was added to Fargo's protected list after a successful camp in July (I think) and I think it was known then that McColgan wasn't going to report. Hill is still on the protected list, but Fargo is having another camp starting tomorrow. Blais was quoted as saying there will be 120 kids at camp and there are 13 open roster spots.

I agree with you . But unless something has happened I don't know about . to move the cats is not Brodsky call . He is only a small share in the ownership ,of the Cats. Earlier this year at the Golf tournament , he made a comment to me and a few others that really turn me off on him . It was all I could do to just walk away , as the others did as well.

More than likely Michael will be returning to camp around the first of September if he does not make the Force team.

Nado used to be associated with the Stars as official minor pro team, not Jr A team. My bad.

Now, Stars is showing support to the Renegades.

Anyway, back to the Cats talk. I look forward to Cats season opener but disappointed with the schedule. Cats got a duplicate schedule as the Nado did last year. Disappointed with the late home opener too(Oct 24th).

But the BIGGEST thing that concerns me is if Brodsky will keep the team in WF much longer. His travel budget has increased threefold. Unless he makes the switch to WSHL or CHL, I hate to see what he may think on that regard. Worse case scenario is move the team....I hope not!!

WCR, I'm not exactly sure what you mean about the TT being minor pro, but I don't think that they were ever minor pro.

The late home opener and sparse home schedule during the first half of the season is so as not to conflict with high school football, which is the undisputed weekend atytendance king in these parts.

As far as the travel, it is my understanding that the TT org is supposed to contribute to help allay the travel costs while the TT are on hiatus. ( Whether or not this is true, I have no idea)\

Lloyd - FYI-- Brodsky is the majority owner. Roy is the minority owner.

As to cost recovery with a new lease, I have been told that the KYC loses $$$ every month that the ice is in due to high electricity costs of running the ice plant. I don't know exactly what the KYC charges the Cats, but I know that the ice time costs the Youth League either $150 or $175 an hour.
